The services of a psychologist in private practice are not covered by Nova Scotia’s Medical Services Insurance (MSI) plan. If you have private health insurance, it is important for you to contact your provider to determine your insurance coverage for psychological services.

I recommend that you ask these questions of your insurance provider:

 

• Does my plan cover the services of a Registered Psychologist?

• How much coverage do I have per year?

• Is that per calendar year or per 12-month period?

• Do you cover 100% of the amount or do I have to pay a portion of each visit?

• Is there a deductible amount, which I have to pay before I qualify for reimbursement?

• Do I require a physician’s referral to qualify for my insurance coverage? 

• How do I submit my claim for reimbursement?

Please note, I am able to direct bill to some insurance companies, however, it is dependent on your policy. You will be provided an invoice for any portion not covered by your insurance company.  If your insurance company does not allow direct billing, you will be provided an invoice to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement according to the coverage under your plan.  Any portion that is not covered under insurance can be claimed as a medical expense and is tax deductible, so please be sure to retain your receipt for income tax purposes.

 

The hourly rate for Marilyn is $210.00 per therapy session, which is 50 minutes, and can be paid by Debit, Visa or Mastercard. Credit card information can be saved in the secure Jane system for ease of payment, which you are able to enter yourself.

 

Note Regarding Increase In Fees:

Please be advised as of July 1st, 2021, the Association of Psychologists of Nova Scotia (APNS) had set the recommended fee for psychological services provided by Psychologists registered with the Nova Scotia Board of Examiners in Psychology at $210 per hour. This increase occurred for our Practice as of October 1st, 2021. For more information visit the (APNS) website here.

The rate for Marilyn of $210 per hour breaks down as follows:

Initial Appointment (90 minutes - telehealth or in-person) $315
Follow Up Appointments (50 minutes - telehealth or in-person) $210
Follow Up Appointments (25 minutes - telehealth or in-person) $105

ADHD assessment/reports are a minimum of $500
